S.E. SEVER

S.E. is a forward-thinking author whose experimental style and content challenges conventional views of the world around us. Her characters are fantastic yet highly accessible, and through them and the universes she creates she walks a tightrope between madness and sanity, present and future, and right and wrong – always questioning, and never short of theories to help provide answers.

About S.E. SEVER

“W
hen I was a kid, I used to offer my glasses to others in order to lend them my point of view. That was before I met writing…”

For many years, I didn’t know how to describe the way I saw things. Spoken words didn’t matter to me; they were too transient. So I began to write, but the alphabet I used wasn’t Latin or Greek; it consisted of made-up symbols – independent of any nationality, era, or religion. Thereafter this became the foundation of my writing. That’s why my stories don’t take place in a specific country, and the main characters sometimes pass by nameless.

“To me, people are like mugs with different handles. Some can be held by their emotions; others by their logic, passions, fears, dreams or desires.”

My handle is my imagination. All my stories blossom from one question: What if? This question gradually gives birth to imaginary people and places in my mind.

What if a mother could talk to the child she miscarried? (Ru.). What if we could trade memories like a commodity? (The White Clinic) What if couples could feel each other’s emotions just like they feel their own? (Bond of Marriage). What if you could spend six hours in a parallel reality, where your actions went unrecorded? (Split Watch)

“Some imagination, precooked observation, a spoonful of diverse information and a pinch of reality. This is the formula of my work.”

The one trait that troubles me the most in life is curiosity. It led me to study many topics: Archaeology, Anthropology, Film and Media, Business Management, and Brain Sciences. The result?
My curiosity just grew bigger.

“I can offer you awe, disquietude and uncertainty – undiluted, purified from all answers.”
